The wonderful 10th century Baksei Chamkrong temple consists of a single brick sanctuary tower sitting on top of a four tiered stepped pyramid of laterite. The above photo shows the view looking down upon the south-west corner ???? • Interestingly the jambs of the eastern doorway feature two inscriptions which give the precise date and time of the temple’s dedication – 9:40am on the morning of Wednesday 23rd of February, 948. The inscriptions also mention that the temple was built in honor of the God Shiva and his spouse Devi and also to memorialize king Harshavarman I’s parents. • The height from the ground to the top is just over 13 meters and the base has a length of 27 meters on each side. • ???? The Kala monster is holding two cute looking Elephants!! ???? • This is a detail of a lintel from the Banteay Samre temple. Directly above the Kala is a lotus flower and originally there would have been a deity perched on top of it. To either side of the lotus are two Apsaras posed with their hands above their heads… • The Banteay Samre temple dates to the middle of the 12th century and is very much in the Angkor Wat style… • • • #banteaysamre #elephant #khmer #khmerart #khmerpride #beautiful #style #design #ancient #ancientart #ancientruins #sculpture #archaeology #angkor #angkorwat #angkorthom #angkortemples #siemreap #cambodia #asianart #natgeo #travel #travelphotography #apsara #wanderlust #passionpassport #travelgram #camboya #cambodian #lonelyplanet

A very interesting scene from a pediment on top of the southern entrance of the central enclosure at the Banteay Samre temple. It features five lady musicians to the right and two dancers on the left. The relief carving is not in great condition but you can clearly see one of the musicians is playing a khmer harp and the lady next to her seems to be playing some kind of stringed instrument. Look at those hairstyles! This is Angkor Wat style art dating from the mid 12th century ???? • • • #banteaysamre #angkor #angkorwat #angkorthom #angkortemples #musicians #khmer #khmerart #khmerpride #khmerdance #dance #art #sculpture #archaeology #architecture #beautiful #style #fashion #wanderlust #travelphotography #natgeo #lonelyplanet #travelgram #music #ancientruins #ancientart #asianart #apsaradance #cambodian #apsara
